What should I do if my child suffers from serious hand injury and limb amputation?

What if the child’s limb is broken?

1. Call 120 emergency calls immediately

Step 2 Hemostasis

Observe the section. If bleeding continues, use clean cloth, towel or gauze to press the injured part hard and bind it to stop bleeding. If pressure bandaging cannot effectively stop bleeding, bind the part above the injured part to stop bleeding and relax once every half hour.

STEP 3 Preserve severed limbs

Wrap the severed limb with sterile gauze or relatively clean cloth towel. Seal the outside with plastic film. Place it in a clean container with ice cubes around it and transfer it to the hospital with the patient. If the limb is not completely severed, it should be fixed before transfer.

Special circumstances:

If there is no ice, popsicles and ice cream can be used instead.

When the amputated limb is swallowed by the animal, the animal can be executed immediately, and the amputated limb can be taken out of the stomach, and there is still the possibility of replantation and survival. If there is a slight delay, the amputated limb will be digested and denatured by the gastric juice of the animal, making it difficult to survive.

4. Seek medical treatment as soon as possible

The sooner the injured are transported, the better, and the replantation operation can be carried out within 6 ~ 8 hours.

Common Mistakes about Limb Amputation

Store the severed limb in liquid.

Never dip the severed finger into any liquid such as alcohol, disinfected water, brine, ice water, etc. for transportation, which will destroy the function and structure of the severed finger (limb) and affect the survival rate of replantation.
