On September 26, 2014, the General Administration of Food and Drug Administration issued a notice reminding consumers not to buy health food claiming aphrodisiac function. The full text is as follows:

Recently, media reports said that Since 2013, the number of cases of producing and selling health food with toxic and harmful ingredients claiming aphrodisiac function has risen sharply. Most of the sales locations are rented houses, small shops and adult stores. Illegal vendors have taken advantage of the psychology that some consumers are ashamed to see a doctor, covet cheap prices and are ashamed to report cases after being victimized, and have taken risks to sell aphrodisiac products to seek illegal benefits.

Here, China Food and Drug Administration reminds consumers:

First, please do not buy health food that claims to have aphrodisiac function. At present, The specific health food functions that China allows to apply for registration include 27 items such as enhancing immunity, assisting in reducing blood lipid and losing weight. However, it does not include the related functions of tonifying kidney and yang, promoting blood circulation and dredging collaterals, invigorating qi and consolidating the foundation, nourishing yin and yang, nourishing kidney yang, strengthening yang and tonifying kidney. The former Ministry of Health and the State Food and Drug Administration have never approved health food claiming yang-strengthening function. Therefore, health food claiming yang-strengthening function is all fake health food.

Two, < < Food Safety Law > > and other relevant laws and regulations clearly stipulate that the labels and instructions of foods claiming to have specific health care functions shall not involve disease prevention and treatment functions. Consumers are requested to improve their identification ability and not blindly believe in all kinds of exaggerated and false propaganda.

Three, found the production and operation of health food claiming aphrodisiac function, can directly report to the China Food and Drug Administration Complaint Reporting Center 12331 or the local food and drug regulatory authorities, once verified, will be severely punished according to law.

At present, the functional scope of 27 health foods approved by China is as follows:
