Recently, the National Cancer Center, Academician Hejie of the Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Professor Chen Wanqing led a blockbuster paper published in the Lancet-Global Health, which analyzed the relationship between common cancers in China and 23 major carcinogenic risks.

What’s more, The paper also analyzes the proportion of cancer caused by various carcinogenic risks in various provinces, cities and autonomous regions in the mainland. There are many important data in it. For example, among adults aged 20 and above, 1.036 million people in China die of various cancers caused by 23 major carcinogenic factors every year, accounting for 45.2% of all cancer deaths (about 2.29 million people) aged 20 and above.

In other words, as long as 23 carcinogenic factors are well prevented and controlled, nearly half of cancer deaths in China can be avoided!

Next, I will explain the key essence of this research.

The most common in all provinces of China

What are the carcinogenic risks?

The 23 avoidable carcinogenic factors include:

1. 4 behavioral factors

Smoking, secondhand smoke, drinking, lack of exercise

2. Dietary factors, total 7

Inadequate intake: excessive intake of fruits, vegetables, dietary fiber and calcium: red meat, processed meat products, pickled vegetables

3. Metabolic factors, 2 in all

  • Overweight, diabetes

4. There are 2 kinds of environmental factors

  • PM 2.5 contamination, ultraviolet radiation

5. There are 8 kinds of infection factors

Helicobacter pylori hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), HIV, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), human papillomavirus (HPV), clonorchis sinensis, human herpesvirus type 8 (HHV-8)

The proportion of 23 avoidable causes of cancer ranked from high to low, with Heilongjiang, Guangdong, Jilin, Hubei and Inner Mongolia respectively in the top five. The five lowest proportions are Gansu, Yunnan, Xinjiang, Tibet and Shanghai, of which only 35.2% of cancer deaths can be attributed to these 23 factors, the lowest in the country.

Perhaps everyone will ask, how can we avoid so many [avoidable carcinogenic risks]?

In fact, we can completely sort out the most critical measures, mainly six.

Six True and Effective Anticancer Measures

Vaccination, such as hepatitis B vaccine and HPV vaccine

Helps prevent: liver cancer, cervical cancer

Statistics show that infection factors are the first major risk of cancer for patients aged 35-39 in China.

About 35% of male patients and 20% of female patients are related to infection. Hepatocellular carcinoma caused by HBV infection and cervical cancer caused by HPV infection account for a large proportion.

More than 50% of the world’s liver cancer is in China, and the biggest factor is hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus infection.

Therefore, it is very important to vaccinate and do a good job in relevant screening.

Due to the popularity of hepatitis B virus vaccine and hepatitis C treatment drugs, the situation in many places, especially in the first and second tier cities, has begun to slowly improve.

In Qinghai, for example, 79.2 percent of men and 73.4 percent of women suffer from liver cancer associated with hepatitis B virus infection, compared with 24.6 percent and 18.5 percent in Beijing.

So many people say liver cancer is [cancer of the poor], but I want to say-

No matter how poor you are, you cannot be poor with vaccines!

Eat more vegetables and fruits, half a kilo of fruits and one kilo of vegetables every day.

Helps prevent: colorectal cancer, oral cancer, throat cancer, gastric cancer

The five largest avoidable carcinogenic risk factors for Chinese women are: insufficient intake of fruits and vegetables, hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, smoking, obesity and HPV infection.

Overall, the first place is insufficient intake of fruits and vegetables, accounting for 15.6%, which is also the largest risk factor for women in 14 provinces of the country.

< < Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents > > It is recommended to eat 300 ~ 500 grams of vegetables and 200 ~ 350 grams of fresh fruits every day. Have you eaten enough?

Quit smoking, quitting smoking, quitting smoking

Helps prevent: lung cancer, bladder cancer, kidney cancer and other 15 kinds of cancer

Overall, the biggest risk factor for cancer among women is insufficient intake of fruits and vegetables.

However, the biggest risk for women in 6 provinces, cities and autonomous regions is smoking, including Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Tianjin, Inner Mongolia and Anhui.

For a long time, the incidence rate of lung cancer among women in Northeast China has been relatively high, which is closely related to their high smoking rate.

Although smoking is the leading factor for men to develop lung cancer in all provinces, Guizhou and Yunnan have the highest proportion, accounting for 62.1% and 61.4% respectively.

However, Yunnan and Guizhou provinces happen to be the two provinces with the highest proportion of fiscal revenue dependent on the tobacco industry.

Alcohol abstinence, abstinence, abstinence

Help prevent: liver cancer, oral cancer, throat cancer, esophageal cancer, colon cancer, rectal cancer and breast cancer

Alcohol is a kind of carcinogen, and one in every 18 cancers is related to drinking.

There are many cancers related to alcohol consumption. Apart from cancer, oropharyngeal cancer, laryngeal cancer, esophageal cancer, colon cancer, rectal cancer and breast cancer are all related to alcohol intake.

Tibet highland barley wine is very famous and is also one of the regions with the highest proportion of cancer caused by drinking in the country. 25.7% of esophageal cancer is related to drinking.

Inner Mongolia people are famous for their generous drinking, and the proportion of esophageal cancer caused by drinking is the second highest, accounting for 24.8%.

However, Ningxia has the lowest proportion in the country, only 9%.

Coincidentally, Ningxia is a Hui autonomous region, and the Hui people do not drink alcohol.

Beware of air pollution, especially PM 2.5

Helps prevent: lung cancer

There is no doubt that severe air pollution is a carcinogenic factor, and it is extremely urgent to control the environment.

Hebei is one of the regions with the most serious air pollution in the country. Both men and women suffer from the most lung cancer caused by PM 2.5, with the proportion of women reaching 22.6%. The situation in Beijing is not optimistic, at 19.2%.

Not surprisingly, Hainan has the lowest proportion, only 2%, Fujian 3.9% and Guangdong 8%.

In addition, don’t ignore the pollution in the home, pay attention to protect kitchen lampblack, besides smoking, this is also a major source of PM 2.5.

Remember to turn on the range hood when cooking and wear a mask when necessary.

Weight Loss and Control Three Highs

Helps prevent: 9 kinds of cancers such as pancreatic cancer,

Many people know that obesity is harmful to health, but they do not know that obesity is also related to cancer.

Current authoritative research has found that cancers that increase the incidence rate due to obesity include:Esophageal cancer, pancreatic cancer, intestinal cancer, breast cancer (postmenopausal), endometrial cancer, renal cancer, thyroid cancer and gallbladder cancer.

In particular, pancreatic cancer is mentioned here, which is not only related to obesity, but also related to diabetes.

Pancreatic cancer has a higher incidence rate in developed regions as a whole. 6.7% of Beijing women are related to diabetes, which is the highest region in the country.

With the improvement of living standards, controlling the three highs is becoming more and more important for cancer prevention.

In fact, these six measures are not difficult. As long as there is a small change, there will be great benefits.
