Cell phones cause cancer? An article makes it clear

Around us, the saying that mobile phones cause cancer can be seen everywhere.

This kind of news has been read too much, and Dr. Clove has also had an illusion. Did the mobile phone discover its ultimate pursuit-to make human beings get cancer after it came to the world?

In fact, listing carcinogens only hopes that everyone will pay attention to the dangers in life and live healthier lives.

However, if we wronged the good people, we will only let go of the real bad people.

Today, Dr. Clove gave us an analysis to see if mobile phones can cause cancer.

Is mobile phone listed as carcinogen?

Today, I would like to talk about mobile phones in particular, because many people are worried that mobile phone radiation is related to brain tumors.

In particular, in 2011, the International Agency for Cancer Research (IARC) under the World Health Organization classified electromagnetic radiation (cell phone signals) as [possible carcinogens]. Many media announced that experts had identified cell phone calls as carcinogenic, which better caused panic.

But (all important is but), this is a misunderstanding.

Even if it is listed as [possible carcinogen], it is not necessarily carcinogenic.

[Possible carcinogen] means that it cannot be proved to be carcinogenic at present, but it deserves further attention.

The requirements for becoming a [possible carcinogen] are not high. For example, coffee is also a [possible carcinogen], but obviously people do not stop drinking coffee because of this.

In my opinion, the reason why the International Agency for Cancer Research has done so stems from the excessive caution of scientists.

A Swedish research team said that if they use mobile phones for more than half an hour a day and persist for more than 10 years, the probability of developing glioma (a subspecies of brain tumor) is slightly higher (from 0.005% to 0.016%) than those who do not use mobile phones.

At the same time, few other scientists in the world have found any connection between cell phones and brain tumors.

Let’s leave aside whether it is meaningful to change from 5 to 16 glioma patients in 100,000 people. The study itself has many problems. For example, its data source is not objective records, but depends on everyone [reporting by himself]. However, how many people can accurately remember how long they have used mobile phones every day in the past 10 years?

Therefore, the scientific community is not very satisfied with this research.

However, the data are there after all. For the sake of insurance, the International Agency for Cancer Research has given the mobile phone the title of “possible carcinogen”, which means:

Let’s wait until we have more data later.

Many methods have been tried, but they have not proved that mobile phones cause cancer.

There are two main ways to study whether any factor (radiation, food, living habits, etc.) is carcinogenic. Let me talk to you separately.

Methods 1: Epidemiological study

This method is to compare the proportion of cancer among high-risk groups and the general public.

For example, in order to study whether cell phone signal transmission towers are carcinogenic, scientists compared the incidence of cancer between workers who build and repair transmission towers for a long time and the general population.

If the electromagnetic radiation generated by the transmission tower is really carcinogenic, then obviously these workers who come into close contact with the transmission tower every day are the most dangerous.

However, the conclusion of the study is that there is no what difference between the incidence rate of people in close contact with the transmission tower and that of ordinary people, which is consistent with the theory.

Methods 2: Laboratory animal simulation method

This method is to give experimental animals a large number of use of this factor to see if it can increase the probability of cancer.

For example, to study whether cell phone signals cause cancer, tie a cell phone with the strongest radiation energy to a mouse and keep the cell phone talking for 24 hours to see if the mouse will get cancer earlier.

If cell phones are really carcinogenic, the health of mice will be more or less affected, but experimental data prove that there is no effect.

For all kinds of non-ionizing radiation common in life, scientists have used these two methods to study their relationship with cancer.

So far, no valid evidence has been found to support that non-ionizing radiation, which is common in life, can cause cancer.

The risk of brain cancer has not increased when mobile phones are commonly used to make phone calls.

The main scientific evidence for saying that mobile phones cannot cause cancer (brain tumor) is epidemiological statistics, such as:

From 1985 to 2010, the number of mobile phone holdings in the United States increased from 240,000 to 300 million, nearly 1,000 times, but the number of patients with glioma (commonly known as brain tumor) in the United States has not changed in what in the past 25 years.

If cell phone radiation really causes cancer, the proportion of brain tumor patients should increase year by year. In fact, this number has not increased not only in the United States, but also in many other countries.

From this point of view, even people who use mobile phones every day need not be too nervous, because the possibility of cancer caused by mobile phones is extremely small.

Instead of worrying about cancer caused by cell phone calls, it is better to worry about walking and playing with cell phones, hitting telegraph poles and falling into sewers. After all, the probability of these dangers is relatively high.

However, Dr. Clove still does not recommend people to put their mobile phones under the bedside or pillow at night because they can reach their mobile phones as soon as they reach out.

After all, it’s time to rest late at night. If you put your mobile phone beside your bed or under your pillow, it is inevitable to light up the screen and look at it a few more times.

Originally, I used my eyes for a long time during the day and watched my cell phone in the dark at night, which easily caused asthenopia and other problems.

So, after reading this article, put down your cell phone and wash and sleep.
