Don’t want to live? This may be a [disease]

Is suicide a personal right?

Many countries are discussing whether people have the right to end their lives. Psychologist Thomas Szasz and doctor Jack Kevorkian believe that how people die is a basic human right that is not controlled by the state.

However, other researchers said that most of the attempted suicides did not commit suicide again later, which indicates that they did not really want to end their lives. However, it must be noted that the risk of suicide again is still higher than that of the average person, so we need to intervene with the attempted suicides.

In fact, most people who intend to commit suicide are hesitant about [whether to end their lives].

The choices of many suicides are irrational or temporary. Usually, in a short period of time, the depressed thoughts about suicide of those who are not terminally ill will disappear naturally.

Most suicides suffer from mental disorders.

In most cases, suicide is a symptom of mental disorders. Prevention of suicide is appropriate at least for patients with mental disorders.

According to the 2002 survey data of the National Mental Health Center, more than 90% of suicides may have suffered from some kind of mental disorder, the most common of which is depression. However, mental diseases such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, substance abuse and anxiety disorder all increase the risk of suicide.

The survey shows that no matter what kind of mental disorder people suffer from, their most common reason for suicide is [escaping intolerable pain], while the behavioral characteristic that can best predict suicide is [impulse].

Suicide itself is a mental disorder?

Professor Dick Swaab, a famous Dutch brain scientist and author of “I am my brain”, once mentioned that the following conditions are [disorders] or [psychological disorders]:

Biological suicide is to take the initiative to end one’s life by jumping off a building, drinking medicine, drowning, etc. Euthanasia, the patient is extremely helpless and cannot bear the pain, so he chooses to end his life. [Life has been completed], usually the old man feels that his life has been successfully completed and does not want to continue living; Philosophical suicide refers to people’s inexplicable philosophical thinking about death…

Why are these four kinds of suicides also an imbalance or disorder?

Because they violate the nature of most creatures, that is, [survival]. From this level, even if the suicidal person has no mental disorder, suicide is also a problem.

Why should we prevent suicide?

Dr. Clove believes that no one should commit suicide because such things could have been prevented.

As mentioned earlier, most people who intend to commit suicide are hesitant about [whether to really end their lives]. Many people who attempt suicide have a temporary choice, and most people who attempt suicide do not commit suicide again later.

However, even so, the risk of suicide attempt is much higher than that of the average person. Therefore, in the United States, people who attempt suicide will be forced to be isolated for 72 hours to prevent them from practicing their temporary suicide attempt.

If someone around you has suicidal tendencies?

  1. Pay close attention to this person’s behavior. Although most people who express suicidal thoughts will not commit suicide, most people who eventually commit suicide will talk about their intention to commit suicide with friends or family before trying to commit suicide.

  2. Ask for help.

  3. Speak out your worries. Tell the other person clearly why you think he/she is suicidal.

  4. Pay attention. Listen closely, keep eye contact, use body language to show that you are listening to every word the other person is saying, and use a neutral position to show that you understand the other person’s feelings. Ask the other person directly if he or she has planned to commit suicide-if so, ask the other person further if he or she plans to take the what approach.

  5. Promise the other party that everything will be better. Emphasize that temporary problems cannot be solved by permanent methods such as suicide.

  6. Don’t promise to keep secrets for each other. You need freedom to contact psychologists and tell them exactly what is going on.

If possible, don’t leave the other party alone before receiving professional assistance.
