Hot drinks above 65 ° C [may] cause cancer, which is really not a rumor.

The Chinese love to eat, and what likes everything [while it is hot].

Mom brought a bowl of chicken soup for you [to drink while it is hot];

My old friend made a cup of Kung Fu tea to let you [drink while hot];

Laotan pickled cabbage beef noodles make you can’t help it [eat while it is hot];

Husband’s constant response to all diseases [drink more hot water]…

However, a latest report issued by the International Agency for Cancer Research (IARC) under the World Health Organization (WHO) warns:

Drinking hot drinks above 65 C has carcinogenic risk.

Why is it said that above 65 ℃ can cause cancer?

Let’s put down the hot tea calmly for the time being and listen to what experts from the International Agency for Cancer Research (IARC) say.

The latest evaluation report published in the authoritative journal Lancet Oncology points out that:

People in Turkey and South American countries (and China by name) are usually accustomed to drinking very hot water, coffee or tea above 65 ℃ or 70 ℃, thus increasing the risk of esophageal cancer.

In addition, experiments on mice also confirmed that hot drinks at 65 ℃ ~ 70 ℃ are enough to burn the throat and may lead to tumors.

Hot drinks exceeding 65 ° C are listed as Class 2A carcinogens, which are likely to cause cancer to human beings.

The same category 2A carcinogens include high-temperature fried foods, lampblack and once controversial red meat.

Note that hot drinking above 65 ° C [may cause cancer] does not mean that hot soup, hot tea, hot coffee and hot water cannot be drunk, nor does it mean that cancer will occur upon eating/drinking. Carcinogenic risk does not necessarily mean carcinogenic.

The focus of this report is to hope that everyone can improve some unhealthy habits and not eat hot tofu even if they are impatient.

The esophagus is delicate and needs to be treated gently.

This is not the first time that hot drinks cause cancer. In previous studies, the relationship between eating hot food and esophageal cancer has been clear.

Esophageal cancer is the eighth most common cancer in the world.

Our oral cavity and esophagus are covered with delicate and fragile mucosa.

    The appropriate eating temperature is 10 ℃ ~ 40 ℃, and the tolerable high temperature is only 50 ℃ ~ 60 ℃, exceeding 65 ℃ is enough to scald mucosa.

Of course, the occurrence and development of esophageal cancer is not a matter of day and night. Occasionally scalded, the esophagus can repair itself. However, in the process of long-term repeated [injury-repair-injury-repair-], there will be more and more abnormal [atypical] cells in the esophagus.

Long-term eating hot food and drinking hot drinks are inevitable even if cancer, oral ulcer, esophageal ulcer and other problems are not allowed.

How do you judge the temperature exceeds 65 ℃?

You may ask, how do you judge 65 ℃? Is it unrealistic to carry a thermometer with you?

In fact, as long as it is not too cold or overheated, lower or higher temperatures will not affect health and need not be too rigid at 65 ℃.

Let’s do a little experiment:

The boiled water just poured into the cup was measured to be about 80 ℃. After a few minutes at room temperature, it will drop to about 65 ℃. However, for hot pot with higher oil content, the temperature will drop slightly slower.

Put hot drinks and hot food on a little bit, cool it down, sip it with your lips, and give it a try. It is generally OK not to burn your mouth.

The cause of cancer caused by hot drinking lies in temperature, not the drink itself. In addition to avoiding drinking hot drinks, we should pay more attention to quitting smoking and alcohol, which are category 1 carcinogens more serious than 65 ℃.
