Mothers-to-be, do you really need to protect your baby?

Let’s tell a story first.

My cousin’s child, who is far away in Canada, is pregnant. She is 48 days pregnant and has a small amount of bleeding. She is very nervous. She quickly contacted me, who is the director of obstetrics and gynecology in China, on WeChat to ask me [why what] [how to do it] [whether to use progesterone].

I wonder why she is so familiar with [progesterone] when she does not study medicine. I learned that it was used and taught to her by her little sisters when they were protecting their babies.

Far water cannot save near fire. Whether to protect the fetus or not, of course, one must go to the hospital for examination first, so she was specially told to see a doctor before deciding whether to take drugs.

After seeing the doctor two days later, she told me disappointed that the doctor did not give a blood test or dispensing medicine, but only gave a B-ultrasound, [see fetal buds, have heart beat]. The girl asked for a medicine to protect the fetus, and the foreign doctor shrugged and asked, [why? ]

Good thing! I am also glad for the baby. I have a fetal heart, which shows that the problem is not big. It is actually better to let nature take its course.

I don’t want to ask my cousin to take [Chinese progesterone] across the sea from home after several nights of turning and turning. You know, in foreign countries, doctors don’t give prescriptions and prescription drugs are completely unavailable.

At this point, my cousin, an obstetrician, has no skill to stop it from a distance. Well, use it as a placebo. At least, relieving anxiety may be good for fetal development.

The final result is, of course, the healthy birth of the baby and everyone is happy.

However, is progesterone really responsible?

Fetal protection is a part of Chinese pregnancy.

I don’t know whether it is because of the fast pace of modern society that people are eager for quick success and instant benefits in this natural physiological process of pregnancy.

Three months without contraception, not pregnant began to anxiety, speculation, pressure; Menstruation for one night, hurriedly go to the pharmacy to buy a piece of test paper for a test; [Zhong], immediately go to the hospital for examination, for fear of mishap; If you are sure to be pregnant, you will be extremely flustered if you have a small amount of bleeding, waist soreness and belly distension. When you get to the hospital, you will not feel at ease if you don’t do all the blood and ultrasound examinations.

In the clinic, I was asked the most, I’m afraid it is [doctor, can I protect this child]; Most of the patients, who have already used progesterone, came to ask [why the bleeding has not stopped] and [is there any other better medicine to protect the fetus].

It seems that protecting the baby after pregnancy has also become a necessary step [to prevent the child from losing at the starting line].

There are really many pregnant women who have had the experience of protecting their babies in the early stages of pregnancy.

They are all common phenomena… … …

In fact, pregnant women may have some physiological contractions during the whole pregnancy process, resulting in stomachache. This is a completely normal phenomenon and there is no need to panic.

A small amount of vaginal bleeding in early pregnancy is not necessarily a pathological problem, some are [bleeding during embryo implantation]. Of course, it is also possible that the embryo itself is underdeveloped, and the body gives a signal through bleeding.

Yes, we should pay attention to pregnancy. However, once the result of [low progesterone] comes out, most pregnant women and their families are really too anxious.

As you may not know, clinically, pregnant women often have [low progesterone] test results. It is not necessary to [supplement progesterone] for [low progesterone].

Do you need to protect your baby?

In fact, the vast majority of pregnant women do not need fetal protection treatment, and some pregnant women are not suitable for fetal protection treatment.

1. Blindly protect the fetus, beware of worse results,

There are many reasons for abortion. In spontaneous abortion, a large part is caused by fetal chromosome abnormalities, with a proportion of about 50% ~ 60%. There are also some other reasons, such as reproductive organ diseases, immune rejection, environmental factors, maternal diseases and emotions.

Nature has a law of superiority over inferiority, and so does pregnancy and childbirth.

Fetal abortion related to chromosome abnormalities has no value in protecting the fetus and has little chance of being protected.

However, if there is a history of adverse contact in the early pregnancy, such as catching a cold, taking medicine, exposure to radiation, etc., you should not barely protect the fetus after bleeding.

This kind of time, let nature take its course, is the best way to deal with. Because, in the first three months of pregnancy, all kinds of adverse factors affect the effect is [all or no], either causing abortion, or safely through. What barely protects the baby may be a problematic baby.

Tough fetal protection treatment will only add to the pain if children with deformities and defects are left behind.

2. There are very few cases where it is really necessary to protect the fetus.

At present, there is a relatively consistent opinion in medicine: it is not in favor of blind fetal protection.

Abortion caused by insufficient progesterone secretion in the mother’s body is actually a minority.

If there is a problem with endocrine function, it is very difficult to get pregnant. It often requires treatment before getting pregnant, or auxiliary means such as test-tube baby are needed. Progesterone treatment is of course essential at these times.

3. Pay too much attention to progesterone, which is a disease.

Under the condition of natural conception, it is really debatable to repeatedly detect progesterone and use large doses of progesterone for treatment.

From the perspective of goodwill, doing so can calm the anxiety after pregnancy. We know that emotional stress is also one of the causes of abortion. If [fetal protection medicine] can be used as a placebo, it is barely acceptable.

But real anxiety cannot be controlled in this way. [Solves] a problem, anxiety will only look for more problems to create uneasiness.

What can really relieve the anxiety of pregnant mothers is to learn to relax and let oneself accept [making life is an incomplete and controllable process], to learn more knowledge of pregnancy and childbirth, and to be more able to appease oneself.

Is it good to protect the baby? This is wrong!

In a short period of outpatient time, it is far more difficult to persuade a pregnant woman not to use fetal protection drugs than to prescribe them to her. Sometimes, it is really difficult to reverse the [popular] awareness of fetal protection among the public.

In the face of anxious faces, if I only cruelly told her to stop taking drugs and don’t need anything, how many patients can leave the clinic safely, safely and happily?

Even some doctors need to get popular science in this area: please don’t do [routine fetal protection], because it is not necessary. However, it seems that this custom is so widespread that even foreign doctors cannot stop it.

Remember:

  1. Normal, do not need to protect the fetus;

  2. Abnormal, protect the fetus also may not be able to protect;

  3. [Abnormal] If you are pregnant, you may not be able to protect the baby, so protect it and listen to the doctor.
