Household Taste Day Lily: This dish is absolutely undesirable to stir-fry. Botanists will tell you how to do it.

May is almost over, and the sun’s firepower is suddenly transferred to the middle and high grade. The tender buds and leaves of spring have disappeared, and all kinds of melons and fruits in the field still need time. Fortunately, we have a delicate and charming flower-day lily.

The smell of memory

Our ancestors started eating day lily more than 2,000 years ago. The Chinese love flowers and eat, Therefore, in Ji Kang’s exposition of “Health Preservation Theory” in the Three Kingdoms period, “Hemerocallis forgets worries and is also for food”. In ancient books, Hemerocallis is called Hemerocallis, but Hemerocallis is a family with 14 members (species), and Hemerocallis is only one of them. However, it also happens to be this sentence [Hemerocallis forgets worries], which provoked the joke of [Boiled Hemerocallis Treats Depression]. This is another story.

In my childhood memory, day lily was tightly bound to summer breakfast.

When the morning dew is wet, Grandma picked two or three day lily buds that were about to bloom. Carefully remove the stamens. Add oil and salt to the boiling water in a small pot, add day lily, roll for a few times, and then pour in the well-beaten egg liquid. Day lily and plumeria are all golden yellow under the rising sun. Soft egg flowers and the fragrance of flowers are really suitable for appetizer breakfast.

Since I left home to study, I seldom drink such soup. At the same time, it is rare to see fresh day lily in the delicious food.

In news reports, it is not uncommon for me to eat fresh day lily to cause poisoning. At one time, I doubted whether there was something wrong with my memory.

Day lily poisons people, not alarmist talk.

Can I eat this fresh day lily? How can we safely enjoy the delicious taste of these golden flowers? Can I eat those [roadside day lily] again?

More and more yellow flowers, red or yellow, with huge flowers, were found in the flower beds on the roadside. I have been repeatedly asked in public lectures, can the day lily on the roadside be eaten?

In theory, Those beautiful Hemerocallis can also be delicious on the dining table. These flowers are rich in dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals. Beautiful colors and beautiful smell. In theory, fresh Hemerocallis flowers should shine brilliantly on the dining table, but what we eat is dried and resembles sewing needles one by one.

This is because the flowers of Hemerocallis are not good stubble. They are not as tame as osmanthus, cauliflower and broccoli.

All Hemerocallis family [day lily] carry the self-defense poison colchicine. As long as you eat 0.1-0.2 milligrams of colchicine (equivalent to 100 grams of fresh day lily), you will be poisoned.

Colchicine can stimulate our digestive tract and affect our central nervous system (especially the activity of respiratory center), so after poisoning, we will feel nausea, vomiting and hypothermia. If we eat too much and too fast, it may be fatal! This is not over yet. Colchicine still has certain liver and kidney toxicity, which will affect the function of liver and kidney and cause irreversible damage.

Remember two moves, the whole family is at ease.

Some people will eat steamed and dried day lily. Colchicine will be destroyed in large quantities during high-temperature steaming and drying. During the foaming process, the residual colchicine will also dissolve in water, which is much safer. However, dried day lily cannot compare with fresh day lily in taste or taste.

So, can fresh day lily be eaten?

The answer is yes, but two points should be noted:

  1. To control the consumption, don’t be greedy, don’t exceed 100g (i.e. 22 ounces) at a time;

  2. To handle it properly, the stamens inside must be removed, because the colchicine content in this part is much higher than that in petals. Be sure to cook long enough. It can also be soaked and rinsed by changing water to ensure safety.

Finally, I would like to remind you of two points. Stir-fried day lily is absolutely unacceptable. This kind of practice cannot effectively destroy colchicine and will poison you if you eat it! Try not to pick [day lily] (day lily) on the roadside, because it is likely to be contaminated by insect-proof pesticides, which are not pesticides used on vegetables.

Simple, eat healthy

Day lily is a very good side dish. After soaking, dried gold needles are added to assorted casseroles. It is a especially good choice to accompany tofu, kelp ribs and Chinese cabbage.

If you want to experience flowers, come to a bowl of golden needle egg flower soup. Just three or four day lily flowers, remove the stamens, soak in clear water for one hour, boil the water, add a little salt, add day lily flowers, until the flowers are completely soft and translucent, and add egg flowers. Just drop a few drops of sesame oil.
